RESEARCH INTERESTS
Why do people behave differently? How do people exert control over their actions? How are these processes disrupted in neurological disorders? My research aims to tackle a major mystery in cognitive neuroscience: What are the mental processes and neural mechanisms underlying cognitive control?
To that, I am particularly interested in associations of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) with cognitive control processes. Currently, I am working on the development of new neuropsychological tools to examine executive functioning in health and neurological disorders. These have allowed me to begin to understand links between executive processes, motivation and goal-directed behaviour.
BIOGRAPHY
Yuen read physics at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore from 2009-2013. He graduated top of his class, receiving both the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal and Koh Boon Hwee scholars' award. From 2013-2014, he worked as a research engineer at the Agency of Science, Technology and Research, Singapore, using density functional theory methods to optimize nickel hydroxide and oxyhydroxide systems in electrochromic materials. In 2014, he was honoured as a National Science Scholar and received funding of up to five years to read his DPhil in clinical neuroscience here at the University of Oxford.
